Thermal Fatigue Failure of Stainless Steel Components for LMFBR Circuits
pages 615-624
SINOPSIS
Two sodium mixers equipping a circuit for testing LMFBR steam-generators experienced sodium leaks after about 7 000 hours of operation under load. Destructive examination and temperature measurements established that the failures were due to thermal fatigue. Analysis of these failures was performed with reference to data on low cycle fatigue of austenitic stainless steels. Solutions adopted for repair proved satisfactory.
