APPLICATION OF THE FOURIER TRANSFORM FOR SEARCHING LOCALIZED MODES OF PLANAR GRADIENT WAVEGUIDES
RÉSUMÉ
The planar waveguides are important component for construction of various integrated optical devices. At present, the scientific literature presents a number of analytical methods for analyzing planar gradient waveguides, which however embrace only certain kind of such structures. In this study a numerical method is developed for determining the propagation constants and their corresponding field patterns of the planar waveguide modes. The method is based on the Fourier transform of the wave equation. The technique is validated by way of numerous examples. Also, the influence of the numerical process parameters on the propagation constant magnitudes is investigated. In the course of the study a numerical stability and high calculation accuracy have been provided which confirms the efficiency of the suggested method. The results of the study are expected to be used for the design of semiconductor lasers.
