RESONATOR METHODS OF MEASURING REFRACTIVE INDEX OF A TRANSPARENT SUBSTANCE IN THE TERAHERTZ BAND
RÉSUMÉ
Measurement of the refractive index of transparent substances in the terahertz band is required for the development of devices and systems that operate in this band. Submillimeter lasers are one of the most affordable sources of coherent THz radiation. They have features that allow measuring the refractive index of transparent substances. The method for on-line measurement of the refractive index of transparent substances in the terahertz band is provided. The measurable substance is placed in a quasi-optical resonator. Measurements are performed by means of coherent terahertz electromagnetic radiation. Test measurements of the refractive index are performed. Substantiation of reducing the error of the refractive index measurement, taking into account the physics of the processes in the space of resonance submillimeter laser system, are provided. It was shown that the accuracy of measurement of the refractive index can be greatly increased by placing the test substance in the resonator of the THz laser. The presented techniques for measuring the refractive index of transparent substances in the THz band can be used in various fields of science, technology and medicine.
