RÉSUMÉ
Based on the experience of 18 years of natural and experimental studies of 46 ponds of the western region of Ukraine and model ecosystems, the general regularities of hydrofauna responses to toxic impact of heavy metals and pesticides have been clarified. The most perspective indicator group on toxic pollution is microzooplankton (Ciliata and Rotatoria). Response of mesozooplankton (Cladocera and Copepoda) includes decreasing of its species diversity and reconstruction of the communities and structure and functional specificity. Response of zoobenthos (Chironomidae and Oligochaeta) is essentially the same.
