Numerical Investigation of Flow and Heat Transfer around Two Semi-Circular Cylinders with a Splitter Plate
RÉSUMÉ
In this study, the effect of different arrangements of two semi-circular cylinders with and without a splitter plate on the flow field and heat transfer rate from the cylinders was investigated numerically. Numerical simulations have been done for one Reynolds number, Re = 250, based on the semi-cylinder diameter (d), at two different horizontal distances (s : s = 1d to 2d) and four different vertical distances between the centers of cylinders (2b : b = 0d to 0.75D). The splitter plate length is assumed to be 1 d. The results show that increasing the horizontal distance between the cylinders decreases the drag coefficient for both cylinders but an increase of the vertical distance has contrary effects on the drag coefficient. Moreover, putting a splitter plate between the cylinders increases the drag coefficient especially for the first cylinder. It is because the existence of the splitter plate enlarges the negative pressure domain behind the first cylinder in comparison to the cases without a splitter plate. The results show that the Nusselt number depends on the length of the recirculation zone and vortex generation mechanism and the asymmetric arrangement of cylinders (b/d > 0) has a bigger Nusselt number than the symmetric arrangement (b/d = 0), especially for the second cylinder.
