RÉSUMÉ

A two-dimensional direct numerical simulation (DNS) has been performed for n-heptane-air homogeneous charge compression ignition HCCI combustion in a constant volume vessel under a HCCI engine relevant condition to understand the ignition characteristics observed in a HCCI combustion mode. As reported in previous studies, initial ignition kernels are tend to be formed at locations with relatively high temperatures. However, they do not always exist in the region of maximum initial temperature. To understand what differentiate the length of ignition delay time of local temperature peaks, the trajectories of such temperature peaks are obtained, and the time evolution of scalar and turbulence characteristics in such local temperature peak regions are obtained. The results show that the success of the ignition is influenced by not only the local thermochemical conditions but also its position respect to a fluid element rotating rigidly.
