ABSTRACT

A total of 264 species and infraspecific taxa of algae was found in phytoplankton of the Vygozero Reservoir. Bacillariophyta (45%), Chlorophyta (32%), and Chrysophyta (9%) were represented by the largest number of species. Data on the peculiarities of the ecological and floristic composition of phytoplankton, and also on species−indicators of the ecological state and water quality, are given in the paper. Changes in the taxonomic structure of phytoplankton consisting in the increase in the number of species−indicators of a rather high trophic level and organic contamination, were registered in the reservoir. Long-term data (1971−2008) on the quantitative indices of phytoplankton development in the northern part of the Vygozero Reservoir subjected to the influence of sewage of the Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill were analyzed. Saprobiological state of the studied area of water was assessed.
