ABSTRACT

The assessment of nurses' quality of life, and the frequency and duration of their absence from work due to disease are important factors in every day function of a department. Both are related to work satisfaction and quality of care provided to patients. This study aims to assess the health-related quality of life of nurses. Questionnaires SF-36 and EQ-5D were used in a sample of 111 nurses. According to SF 36, nurses' quality of life is good. The physical functioning variable had the highest score, and the vitality the lowest. According to EQ-5D, nurses had a higher level of social well-being, in terms of mobility, self-care, and usual activities. In terms of pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression, nurses report a lower level of social well-being, because they feel moderate pain and anxiety. The most frequent cause of absence from work was flu-like symptoms; 35.1% of nurses do not leave their work despite experiencing a disease.
