要約

Data measured from the Dynamic Explorer 2 satellite are used to analyze the wind influence on the propagation and properties of Atmospheric Gravity Waves (AGW) in the polar thermosphere. Some effects indicating that the AGW behavior is under wind control have been revealed. Specifically it has been found that i) the AGWs systematically propagate oppositely to the wind and ii) the higher the wind speed, the greater the AGW amplitude. An empiric dependence of the AGW amplitude on the wind speed has been obtained. The specific features in the spectral characteristics of the AGWs propagating above the polar caps are explained by the effect of wave modification in strong winds of polar circulation.
