要約

A survey of the capabilities of commercial heat recovery equipment and related processes was conducted to determine their potential in coal coversion complexes. Major categories of heat exchangers investigated, in addition to shell and tube, included regenerators and direct contact units; Rankine cycle applications were also reviewed. Primary applications included feed-effluent and other process stream interchangers, combustion air preheaters, and steam generators (waste heat boilers).
The importance of heat recovery and utilization in coal conversion plants is recognized, as are the general problems associated with the design of heat exchangers. It is agreed that at present the rating (process design) of heat exchangers for coal conversion facilities is more difficult than the fabrication. These designs are based on the process conditions, physical property data, and materials of construction specified by the purchaser. No warranties are made concerning the effects of corrosion, erosion or fouling on performance.
There is a definite need for a research, development, and testing program to provide more physical property and heat transfer data for multi-phase streams and a better understanding of fouling, corrosion, and erosion.
