要約

Combustion is a very complex reactive fluid dynamical process. A thorough analysis is a prerequisite to reduce pollutant emissions, for fuel economy, for the optimization of burner performance and for on-line control purposes. Local point measurements (e.g. with thermocouples or local radiation pyrometry and spectroscopic methods) give only a little information to characterize these spatially distributed and time dependent processes. Large array sensors like CCD-arrays provide us with an enormous amount of information; automatic image processing as well as pattern recognition methods give a much higher potential for the analysis of such processes and have the attraction of a non-contact and non-intrusive optical measurement technique. The literature shows a wide acceptance, and gives examples for the potential, of these methods (see e.g. [17, 18, 21, 22, 25]).
The task to analyze those complex digital images is made more difficult by the fact that we get deficiencies caused by the projection of a three dimensional (3D) process into the two dimensional (2D) camera plane. The simplest case is a transparent (optically thin) process with a linear superposition model for transmitted or emitted radiation. However, in general we may have nonlinear effects by extinction and occlusion. The loss of information by projections may at least partially be recovered by stereo or multiple views with more than one camera. Tomographic analysis may be used for backprojection to get 3D cross-sections based on digital calculations. Another possibility of cross-section analysis may be realized by illuminating a fluid process with planar light sources, e.g. by beam splitting a laser.
