RESUMO

The Gniloye, Linevo, and Ilantovo lakes are located within the territory of the Volga-Kama State Nature Biosphere Reserve (Russia). However, despite of their status in the 1980s the lakes were subjected to intensive anthropogenic load conditioned by the influence of the Kazan poultry farm and the Raifskiy fur farm. The level of contamination of the lakes was extremely high. Measurements aimed at lake purification from waste water were not carried out. The modern ecological state of the lakes and their capability for self-recovery were assessed using physiochemical and biological parameters.
