RESUMO
Effect of lead ions on activity of key enzymes of the energy and nitrogen metabolism in the diatom Mayamaea atomus has been studied, and rate of this metal accumulation by the cells has been estimated. Maximal absorption of lead ions occurred in first hours after it was added to the medium. Succinate dehydrogenase and cytochrome oxidase were shown to be more sensitive to 1 MPC of Pb2+ than to 5 MPC, this fact confirmed to complex dependence of respiratory processes in the cells of the diatom on the toxicant concentration. It was revealed that glutamine synthetase practically was not affected by the lead ions of the considered concentration.
