RESUMO
The review deals with new literature data on consequences of the water bodies oil pollution for higher aquatic plants and algae. Some aspects of their functioning such as stability and possible adaptation mechanisms, potential capacity for biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and prospects of use for the aquatic ecosystems remediation and recovery are considered.
