ANALYTICAL SOLUTION OF THE FLOW IN A COMPOSITE CYLINDRICAL CHANNEL PARTIALLY FILLED WITH A POROUS MEDIUM IN THE PRESENCE OF MAGNETIC FIELD
RESUMO
This paper deals with the steady laminar flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a composite cylindrical pipe partially filled with a porous medium in the presence of uniform magnetic field applied transversely to the flow. The flow in the porous region is assumed to be governed by the Brinkman equation and flow in clear region is governed by Stokes equation. Continuity of velocity and stress at the fluid – porous interface and no-slip condition on impermeable wall of the pipe is used. The analytical expressions for velocity, volumetric flow rate, and skin friction on the inner and outer walls are obtained and presented graphically. The effects of various flow parameters such as permeability parameter, Hartmaan, number and gap parameter on the flow are discussed. In the limiting case when permeability k → ∞ and magnetic field B → 0 the obtained results reduce to the classical results of Hagen–Poiseuille flow.
