NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF DOUBLE-DIFFUSIVE NATURAL CONVECTION IN A RECTANGULAR POROUS ENCLOSURE WITH PARTIALLY ACTIVE THERMAL WALLS
RESUMO
In the present work, two-dimensional double-diffusive natural convection heat and mass transfer in a rectangular porous enclosure with partially thermally active side walls has been numerically studied. The length of the active part is equal to half of the cavity height. The top and bottom of the enclosure and inactive part of the side walls are assumed to be insulated and impermeable to mass transfer. The active part of the left side wall has a higher temperature and concentration than the right side wall. The placement order of active thermal walls has a significant influence on heat and mass transfer rate. To explore this effect as well as obtaining the optimum rate inside the porous enclosure; different relative locations of the active zones are considered. The laminar regime is considered under steady-state condition. The Forchheimer−Brinkman extended Darcy model is used in this study. A finite volume approach has been used to solve the non-dimensional governing equations through the SIMPLE algorithm. The results are presented in streamline, isothermal, and isoconcentration for some parameters to describe the double-diffusive convection phenomena inside the enclosure. In addition, the heat and mass transfer rate in the enclosure is measured in terms of the average Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.
