DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTIGATION OF COPPER-WATER LOOP HEAT PIPES WITH HIGH OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS
RESUMO
This paper represents the results of development and investigation of the operating characteristics and maximum thermal parameters of a copper–water loop heat pipe (LHP) with an effective length of 330 mm equipped with a flat-oval evaporator, 7 mm thick, whose active zone measures 32 × 32 mm. Tests were conducted with heat sources which had heating surfaces of 9 and 1 cm2. In the first case, a maximum heat flux of 100.1 W/cm2 was achieved at a vapor temperature of 104.4°C. The thermal resistance of the evaporator in this case had a minimum value of 0.014°C/W, and the heat-transfer coefficient in the evaporator zone reached a maximum equal to 79100 W/m2°C. With a heat load concentrated on a surface of 1 cm2, the maximum heat flux in the heating zone was 898 W/cm2 at a vapor temperature of 100.7°C. A minimum value of the evaporator thermal resistance of 0.088°C/W and a value of the heat-transfer coefficient equal to 113,700 W/m2°C, which corresponded to it, were achieved at a heat flux of 334 W/cm2 and a vapor temperature of 97.9°C.
