RESUMO

The concept of tandem blade arrangement for axial compressors has been proposed to increase the work per stage without incurring large losses. Though several investigations have been carried out for design conditions, a detailed study of the off-design performance and a numerical study on variable camber mode operation of tandem cascades is lacking in the literature. Therefore, the main focus of the current study is to investigate the effect of off-design incidence and the feasibility of variable camber operation on the tandem cascade performance. The numerical study was conducted using a finite volume scheme which solves the RANS equations along with the Spalart−Allmaras turbulence model. Flow structures leading to the increase in losses in off-design cases have been investigated and the applicability of variable camber mode operation in off-design cases has been addressed.
