RESUMO
The tetrachloride flow visualization method is employed to study the flow structures and flow/flame interaction of the combusting jet in a transverse stream. The flow fields present different features in the transverse-stream-dominated, transitional, and jet-dominated ranges. The traveling coherent structures, the downwash effect in the vicinity of the burner tip, as well as the vortical structures in the wakes of the gas jet and burner tube characterize the prominent features of the combusting flow. The flow structures that cause the flames to present multiple appearances are discussed.
