LOW TEMPERATURE PLASMA GENERATOR WITH AN EXPANDING CHANNEL OF THE OUTLET ELECTRODE
RESUMO
Physical foundations of the outlet electrode channel profiling are considered for the low temperature plasma generator with self-establishing arc length. An optimal expansion angle is determined by the gas dynamic characteristics and energy input. Apparently preferable channel profile for subsonic flow regimen must provide near-constant dynamic pressure or Mach number along the channel. Electrical discharge in the plasma generator with expanding channel of the outlet electrode is investigated, and its specific features are described compared with the similar discharge in the plasma generator with cylindrical channel. In particular a drastically less discharge length is distinctive for the expanding channel, this circumstance being favorable for the stability of discharge. Plasma generator with an expanding channel of the outlet electrode is widely used for the hardening and nitriding treatment of railway wheels. Some other applications are considered too. Keywords: plasma technologies, plasma hardening, plasma coating.
