SHIMMY ANALYSIS OF AIRCRAFT MULTI-WHEEL LANDING GEAR

RESUMO

A method of shimmy analysis of a multi-wheel landing gear without a shimmy damper is proposed based on using the free vibration frequencies and modes of the gear leg at the wheel axis points. It is proposed to use the finite-element method to obtain the frequencies and modes of the natural oscillations of the landing gear leg. The proposed method allows obtaining a more precise model of the elastic link of the multi-wheel landing gear between an aircraft and the ground. Application of the method is illustrated by symmetrical two-wheel landing gear leg shimmy computations. It is shown that in this particular case the proposed method yields the same results as the design guide. As a practical example, the shimmy analysis of the main landing gear of a passenger aircraft is considered.
