RESUMO
Cells of Tolypothrix scytonemoides grown at pH 8.5 had highest chlorophyll a content but total protein content, phycobilin pigments and rates of photosynthesis and respiration were highest in the control. Nitrogenase activity was highest at pH 6.5 but glutamine synthetase activity was more in cells grown at pH 8.5. Release of ammonia was enhanced at pH 10.5 while the release of carbohydrates was greatest in cells grown in unbuffered medium. Polypeptides of ∼50 and 36 kDa were detected only in cells grown at pH 9.5.
