RESUMO

The objective of this work is to present an energy and exergy analysis of a novel configuration of absorption cooling system operating at low enthalpy sources. The double stage cycle developed in the present work is operating with water-ammonia. In this investigation, a modelisation and simulation of the proposed configuration is carried out. A thermodynamic model based on the mass energy and exergy balances are developed for this purpose. Numerical results obtained have been compared with those relative to the conventional machine. A great interest is given to estimate the refrigeration systems' performance, the exergy efficiency, the global exergy destruction in the system and the exergy destruction in each of the main components. The effects of generator, absorber, condenser and evaporator are examined on the performance of the system. The parameters analyzed are the COP, the irreversibility and the exergetic efficiency. The study reveals that the performances of the novel configuration are better than the two stage conventional configuration. Besides, it allows a lower operating temperature, about 60-120 °C in steed of 100-160 °C for the conventional cycle.
