Краткое описание

The peculiarities of the distribution of heavy metals (Cd, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Co, and Fe) were studied in the water, bottom sediments, and Bivalvia (Anodonta anatina and Unio tumidus) occurring in the Ukrainian section of the Desna River. It has been found that the content of Mn, Fe, and Cu in the water was higher than their limiting permissible concentration for water bodies used for fishery almost over the whole riverbed. At the same time, even the spill of sewage of the town of Chernigov did not result in the increase in the content of Cd, Cr, and Ni. The content of heavy metals in soft tissues of mollusks was characterized by complicated spatial dynamics: the content of Cd and Ni gradually increased from the reaches of the river to its estuary, the content of Cu and Zn gradually decreased toward the estuary of the river, whereas the content of Fe, Cr, Mn, and Co increased in the middle reaches of the river and decreased towards its estuary. The background content of heavy metals in the tissues of mollusks was calculated. It has been found that the content of Mn, Cr, Fe, and Co increased within the border between the Chernigov and Sumy regions. The concentration of Ni increased in the estuary of the Desna River. Thus, these regions are contaminated by the above mentioned chemical elements.
