FINITE VOLUME NUMERICAL SOLVERS FOR NON-LINEAR ELASTICITY IN HETEROGENEOUS MEDIA
Краткое описание
The one-dimensional elastic wave equations are considered. We solve these equations using finite volume numerical methods, namely, the Lax−Friedrichs and the LeVeque finite volume methods. The Lax−Friedrichs method is chosen as a representative of methods based on flux averaging between cells. The LeVeque method is chosen as a representative of methods based on characteristic decomposition of propagating waves. These two methods are tested on a number of elasticity problems, which include linear and non-linear problems as well as problems involving homogeneous and heterogeneous media. We find that the LeVeque method is able to solve all test cases. However the Lax−Friedrichs method is able to solve only the homogeneous media cases, regardless of whether the problems are either linear or non-linear.
