A ONE-DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODEL OF CAPILLARY INSTABILITY
Краткое описание
The momentum and continuity equations are reduced to a one-dimensional form for the case of a finite axisymmetric disturbance on a liquid ligament, retaining both viscous and inertial terms. Numerical solution of these equations for simple sinusoidal disturbances yields results that are in good agreement with experimental data and the exact solutions of Rayleigh and Weber for infinitesimal disturbances. The model carries through to the point of breakup and predicts the formation of satellite drops between the main drops of the stream. The model is also applied to more complex disturbance functions, and it is shown that additional, longer-wavelength disturbances can inhibit the formation of satellite drops.
