Bacillariophyta in Periphyton of the Hypereutrophic Artificial Lagoon within the City of Vladivostok (Russian coast, Sea of Japan)
Краткое описание
Species composition and quantitative characteristics were studied in a year-round research of periphyton diatoms on experimental plates in a hypereutrophic artificial lagoon within the city of Vladivostok. Seventy-nine species and interspecific taxa of Bacillariophyceae (58), Fragilariophyceae (6), and Coscinodiscophyceae (15) classes are revealed. Total periphyton density varied from 0.026 to 13.9 mln cells/m2. The indicators of strong organic pollution (α-mesosaprobionts) were predominating (80.03%) The average annual values of number of species, Shannon's species diversity, and Pielou evenness indexes in diatom periphyton were relatively low (n = 9.5, H = 1.38, e = 0.39 inf. byt/m2, respectively). There was almost no development in the winter period and at the beginning of spring of periphyton. This lack of development was caused by poor light conditions in the lagoon due to a thick ice cover. The features of quantitative development of periphyton year-round are determined by the specific physical and hydrological conditions of the lagoon, and also by its eutrophication by sewage waste waters contributing to the mass development of strong organic pollution indicators.
